The Last Goodbye
The Last Goodbye
The sky is dark
and holds no light,
And every star
is lost to night.
I search for what
I cannot see,
The hope that used
to live in me.
You're not the dream
I used to chase,
A nightmare came
to take its place.
Why must we prove
what hearts can see?
That pride makes strangers,
you and me.
You and me...
So now we walk
as strangers do,
And gone is everything
we knew.
I can't believe
that this is true,
There is no "us",
just me and you.
I don't know what
you need from me,
I gave my all—
what more could be?
This quiet grief
has left a void,
And every hope
I had destroyed.
The promise broke
along the way,
A trace of sorrow
came to stay.
I reach to touch
what used to be,
But find a ghost
in front of me.
So now we walk
as strangers do,
And gone is everything
we knew.
I can't believe
that this is true,
There is no "us",
just me and you.
The time has come
to turn the page,
And close our eyes
upon our rage.
No other words
are left to say,
Just silence falls
to mark the way.
Now laughter fades
and tears remain,
The ghost of joy
walks through the pain.
Where is the strength
to love, to try,
To fall, yet still
keep head held high?
So now we walk
as strangers do,
And gone is everything
we knew.
I can't believe
that this is true,
There is no "us",
just me and you.
Just stay the same—
be wild, be true,
That endless love
still reaches you.
And if this vow
must cross the skies,
I'll keep it till
the last goodbye.
